„WHAT A FAMILY! Ruthe Zuntz: 500 Years in Focus“ invites visitors on a personal journey through the centuries-long history of one of Frankfurt’s most renowned Jewish families. Born in Israel, the young photographer Ruthe Zuntz decided in the early 1990s to move to Berlin. From then on, her father began writing her weekly letters. Gradually, she learned about his childhood in Frankfurt, the fate of her grandfather, and the more than 500-year history of her family, which traces back to the Judengasse.
The multimedia exhibition presents the results of the search undertaken by the acclaimed German-Israeli photographer. It introduces, among others, Rachel Zunz-Hess, co-founder of the “Kaffeerösterei A. Zuntz,” Leopold Zunz, a founder of the modern academic study of Judaism, and Rosel Zuntz, one of Frankfurt’s first practicing female physicians. It traces the trauma of the Shoah and provides insight into the present-day lives of family members in Israel, Europe, and the United States.
Guided tours are free of charge, while admission to the exhibition requires a ticket. The number of participants for tours is limited. Reservations can be made via our online shop.
