This Jewish cemetery is one of the most beautiful in the Rhine-Main area. It was opened at the southern end of Frankfurt’s Main Cemetery in 1828. Today it counts more than 30,000 graves. The tour focuses on famous personalities and lesser known individuals among Frankfurt’s Jewish citizens who are interred here. The tour comments on the artistically designed tombstones of the Rothschild family, the graves of women’s rights activist Bertha Pappenheim, painter Moritz Daniel Oppenheim, and finance magnate Charles Hallgarten, among other points of interest.
