Manuscripts and Prints

Religious works, poems, plays, songs and vocals

Down through the centuries, the Jewish Community in Frankfurt and its surroundings has been characterised by a lively literary production. Over time, religious works as well as poems, plays, songs and cantos in Hebrew and Yiddish have been written, copied and printed. In the 18th century, Frankfurt was one of the most important centres when it came to printing Yiddish works. Our collection contains numerous examples documenting the city‘s importance in this respect.
